National Cyber Security Centre now operational
Vision is to help make the UK the safest place to live and do business online
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) began its first day of operations last week (3 October) and will be the UK's new authority on cyber security.
The centre is bringing together the capabilities already developed by CESG (the information security arm of GCHQ), the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure, CERT-UK and the centre for Cyber Assessment.
As the UK faces a growing threat of cyber-attacks from states, serious crime gangs, hacking groups and terrorists, the NCSC will help ensure that the people, public and private sector organisations and the critical national infrastructure of the UK are safer online.
It aims to transform how the UK tackles cyber security issues; acting as a bridge between industry and government, providing a unified source of advice and support on cyber security, including the management of cyber security incidents.
